HISTORY

A company Aventura-Cruises has been organizing and operating shore excursions since 2004.

Throughout these years, full provision for ships' supplies is a topic that our clients have often brought up with us. We chose to deploy our extensive knowledge and contacts and established the shipping agency O Ponto in January 2014.

Since this date, O Ponto is providing services for the carrying-out of port operations for cruise ships on all the islands of the capeverdean archipelago. Both companies, Aventura-Cruises and O Ponto, are managed by the two German partners, Janine Hetzel and Lena Ehrlich.

The Green

Craggy cliff tops, tropical green valleys and impressive volcanic craters attract hikers and those who just love mountains from all over the world. On the second largest and most mountainous island of Cabo Verde, you will find innumerable trails across steep ridges and meandering through traditional villages that appear to be stuck onto the sides of mountains.

On several sugarcane plantations they still produce the national drink of cape verde, grogue.

the african

Steep mountains, green valleys, barren landscapes and colourful markets – Santiago is vivid, with a fascinating diversity forming this islands particular identity. The biggest and most african of the cape verde islands, thanks to its early settlers, has for a long time been considered as the blueprint from which all the islands of Cabo Verde developed.

In Cidade Velha you can still discover the remnants of the first portuguese settlers, before you dive into the new capital praia and let yourself be carried away by the contrast of history, complimented with a modern atmosphere.

Aside from the cities, there is an impressing landscape waiting to be explored: hike through the mountains, bask in the serenity of the misty cloud forests or stroll among the colourful weekly markets. Marvel at the wide spaces where sugarcane, coconut and bananas are planted or relax on white sandy beaches and enjoy animated encounters with the lively residents of Santiago.

the fiery

Fire is the element which can be sensed all over Fogo – in the people’s minds, in the deep red of their wine and the lava-landscape of the cha das caldeiras. The heat of the volcano is simmering everywhere.

Hike through impressive fields of lava at the bottom of the mighty Pico de Fogo, enjoy the glorious play of colours of this abstract scenery and let your heart beat with fogo when having a nice glass of local wine. Besides the phenomenal volcanic landscape, the island offers lush coffee plantations, wide black sandy beaches and shows its softer side in the charming city of sao filipe boasting its old colonial buildings.

The Sandy

This easternmost island is currently experiencing a tourist boom. more and more guests are attracted by the white, sheer, endless sandy beaches. Yet despite mass tourism in the club hotels and theme restaurants, the island still offers untouched wide landscapes and interested travellers will have cultural encounters with the local people, who make their living from agriculture, not from tourism.

Although there are plenty of sun-bathing and surfing opportunities to be found in the sheltered bays, you can still discover deserted beaches with crystal blue water between dunes, palm-oases and stoney deserts.

Pay Boa Vista a visit, if you are looking for the relaxing atmosphere of a beach holiday, combined with the adrenalin of adventure.

the forgotten

Although being of the same terrain as Sal and Boa Vista, Maio island can’t and doesn’t need to keep up with their tourist attractions, because it is the simple tranquillity and simplicity on offer, which is the basis for the charm of this apparently forgotten island.

Isolated villages, where tourists are rare guests, and dry landscapes sparsely covered with vegetation dominate the island’s scenery.

Volcanic evidence in abundance, sporadic fig trees, ocean going turtles and countless species of birds are the absolute highlights of Maio.

Those who are seeking solitude in which to escape the demands of everyday life might find their own little paradise on Maio.

the untouched

Impressive, almost untouched mountain scenery, the likeable capital vila da Ribeira Brava, friendly residents, lively traditions – that’s São Nicolau!

Being widely unaffected by tourism, this island has maintained its authenticity and offers tranquility, a recipe for an unforgettable tour. A moderate level of hiking ability will traverse you through the mountainous scenery providing spectacular panoramic views.

The contrasts between dry deserts and green valleys with its great number of scarce plants, like the dracaena tree, combined with the inhabitants’ cordiality and those beautiful small villages, give this island its very special charm.

the breezy

For those who love white beaches, sun and comfort, sal is just perfect.
thanks to its dreamlike beaches and the steady consistant wind, the flattest and sunniest of the cape verde islands attracts sun-worshipers as well as kite- and windsurfers.

If you are more into diving or snorkelling, you’ll find some good spots to explore the variety of species to be found in an awe-inspiring underwater world.

The island’s name originates from its former importance as a salt-supplier and interested guests can still visit these old salt-mines.

Nowadays Sal has the most developed tourist infrastructure of the entire archipelago, with its international airport, luxurious club hotels and spacious pools. besides this the island simply consists of sand, stones and salt.

the flowery

The smallest, possibly wildest, of all the islands makes recompense for the exhausting sometimes troublesome traversing, with its agreeable climate, eclectic landscapes, wonderful hikes and idyllic villages. On excursions to the valley of Faja de Agua the traveller passes hedgerows of hibiscus, dragon trees and coconut trees meeting at most along the way a herd of goats.

To Brava adventures the traveller seeking peace, isolation and unforgettable hiking experiences.
